VACANCY (voluntary) – Communications Coordinator, Steering Committee (Africa region); Extended Deadline for application: 27 November 2020, 23:59 UTC

Although the last GYG elections were held just five months ago, we are obliged to announce the by-election of the GYG Steering Committee position of Communications Coordinator for the region Africa, following the resignation of former Steering Committee member, Samantha Anzemo (Kenya Young Greens)

IMPORTANT: as per gender balancing rules, this person must identify as a woman, as intersex and/or as trans, because the corresponding Steering Committee member from Africa, Souleymane Ouedraogo, identifies as male.

Mandate

As per the GYG Organisational Principles, the mandate time for Steering Committee members is three years. However, a new Steering Committee is elected at every GYG congress and the next congress is planned for 2022. Therefore, this mandate time is shortened to a little over one and a half years.

What is the GYG Steering Committee?

The Steering Committee is the second highest decision-making body of GYG, which is why it is important to have both experienced and active people involved. Its primary responsibility is to implement decisions of the Congress (highest decision making body) and to steer the network on behalf of its members. The Steering Committee is regionally and gender balanced, with 2 members from each region (Africa, America, Asia Pacific, Europe).

The Steering Committee autonomously decides upon its working structure. However, there are five kinds of positions defined by our Organisational Principles:

  • one Secretary
  • one Treasurer
  • four Regional Coordinators from four regions (each responsible for the communication with the region of their main residence)
  • one Communication Officer
  • one committee member without explicit assignment

Communication Coordinator Role

  • Responsible for organizing and overseeing the creation of GYG promotional materials and brand identity.
  • Developing a GYG social media strategy
  • Regular content creation, publication, and maintenance of GYG social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Linkedin).
  • Working with other Steering Committee members to ensure the website is maintained and updated.
  • Coordinating Communication and Public relations working group
  • Creating a social media calendar
  • research and drafting political texts related to GYG framework and objectives

Desired skills/qualifications:

  • Very confident English skills
  • Have enough time to dedicate, estimate around 10 – 15 hours a week
  • Experience in campaigning on variety of social media platforms
  • Good Content development and design skills (Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Video production skills (Premiere Pro, DaVinci, Pro Cut)
  • Other language skills (especially French and Spanish)
  • Knowledge and experience of campaigning
