Call for Partner Organisations

“Greening Democracy – A Global Perspective on Youth Participation”

September 2014 in Istanbul, Turkey

The Global Young Greens and the Young Greens of Turkey are looking for partner organisations to apply for funding to the Youth in Action Programme in order to implement an unforgettable seminar on the topic of “Greening Democracy – A Global Perspective on Youth Participation”. If your are interested in becoming a partner organisation, please fill in the application form as well as the preliminary agreement of the partner and send both to Sarah Benke at sarahb@globalyounggreens.org until 20th August 2013.

AIM OF THE PROJECT

The aim of the seminar is to raise awareness about socialisation, learning and living in different societies as well as the meaning of both EU citizenship and global citizenship and the rights that go with it. Furthermore, we aim at creating a space for youth to identify their commonalities and differences while finding strength in their diversity in order to develop their own skills, knowledge and attitudes in terms of interculturality. Through identifying opportunities for more lasting collaboration at the regional and global level we want to arouse ther curiosity in order to increase their motivation and commitment to democratic projects and participation in their own societies.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

The seminar “Greening Democracy – A Global Perspective on Youth Participation” will bring together about 80 young people from Europe and beyond in Istanbul, Turkey to find out how we can strengthen the participation of youth in European society in a way that will increase social cohesion and equality. As we know, democracy is not a homogenous term or experience, it manifests differently around the region and world. At the same time it has a powerful ability to bring people together and to transform our societies. Therefore, the focus of this seminar is to explore the greening of democracy, which means both a renewal, rejuvenation and revival of democracy as well as a green approach to the topic in terms of considering the concepts of grassroots and participatory democracy, ecological sustainability, social justice and peace. It is with this focus in mind that we hope to identify our commonalities and differences while finding strength in our diversity. Both to increase our personal motivation and commitment to democratic projects in our own countries and to also identify opportunities for more lasting collaboration at the regional and global level. Thus, we want to invite a number young guest speakers from countries outside of Europe in order to ensure an authentic approach to the greening democracy from a genuine global perspective on youth participation.
